Had, then lost, my DSL from EarthLink. Again. Made a round of phone calls. Again. SBC PacBell sent ASI out. Again. Was given a different answer. Again. My location prevents a consistent connection at 386 kpbs, but it will permit 192 kpbs if EarthLink agrees. This according to Mike J., my technician du jour. (Mike, a 40-year-old Gemini, is married, lives in Hollister, and is unhappy with Eric, who “doesn’t do nothin’ for ASI techs. Used to get good clothing. All I got this year was a pin … and a certificate of appreciation.” Invites me to return to SBC, which will when others “don’t.”) Meanwhile, two blocks away, residents receive 1,536 kpbs because of “Project Pronto,” whose continued rollout SBC has delayed. I may have access to it on July 15, 2004. Sigh.
