Tackling Schadenfreude

By far, the best commercial broadcast during Super Bowl XXXVII was "Terry Tate: Office Linebacker," wherein Tate violently tackles discourteous or slacking office workers. The ad's schadenfreude is worth it's weight in Tate's gold chains, but the legal disclaimer is priceless:

"The characterizations in this advertisement seek to entertain and are not in any way an endorsement of the use of force in the workplace. Workplace violence is an important safety and health issue. The Occupational Health & Safety Administration (OSHA) has standards and regulations to prevent and deal with workplace violence. For information, please visit OSHA."

Blog as Zen Garden

Why blog? It's my Zen garden, my living web. Peace of mind through simplifying design, cleaning code, archiving photos, recording thoughts. Plus, it beats staring at the ceiling.

Plundered

The Raiders lost. Bad. 48-21. Five interceptions. Three for touchdowns. One with two seconds remaining. I wasn't able to blog any of it, thank God. The Bucs slaughtered us. Plundered. Pillaged. Man, those are pirate words I wanted to use against them, not us. Ouch. And I took it all personally. The rest of the evening was supposed to be fun. I just wanted out of the room. Why is this more than just a game?

Slight Improvement

Goodtype is closer in style to what I originally intended. Of course, now that every posting has the same date and time, I should plumb the insides for a while. But not now. Now it's time to prepare for the Raiders. Oh, baby.

Raiders Weblog Launched

Before I go to bed, I thought I might be interested in telling me (my audience) that my new weblog, simply titled Raiders, is up and running for the Superbowl. Perhaps this will keep me out of the hospital.

Superbowl Weblog

The only weblog I can find on the Superbowl so far is from some twit named Marty Strasen, writing for the Tampa Bay Tribune. Thankfully, some enterprising Raider's fan plundered the Bucs' website. Think I might blog for the Raiders, just to see if I can keep my head from exploding.

14 hrs...

I've run through the Superbowl sites of more than a dozen online news outlets. Every one predicts a close game. I am going to lose my mind by 3:25 p.m. tomorrow. If it's a close game, I'll need sedatives by the fourth quarter.

15 hrs...

I am about to jump out of my skin. Raiders vs. Bucs. No. 1 offense vs. No. 1 defense. Student vs. teacher. Wisdom vs. youth. I cannot believe this will be anything but a great Superbowl. The third in three years. Now with my team finally in. Thank the gods we have this instead of war.

Kung-Log Pow

This tiny app, Kung-Log, lets me post entries to my weblog without opening a web browser. Most impressive. A few interface tweaks -- tabbing from field to field, positioning the drawer on the left or right (as well as the bottom), would make this well worth paying for.

The Nickname Game

Seems like everyone is trying to come up with nicknames for Apple's new anodized aluminim 12- and 17-inch PowerBooks. TiBook caught on for the titanium 15-inch PowerBook G4. I don't think AlBook will. TinBook sounds worse. The aluminum itself sounds much better, Ray Urban's report in Macintouch:

...The clear hard anodized aluminum finish that Apple is using on the exterior of the new PowerBooks is by far the toughest of the various finishes Apple has used on its portable computers. ... [The] aluminum will resist very well deterioration and scratching from normal use. ... Indeed, aluminum oxide is extensively used as an industrial and consumer abrasive. ... What this means is that two or three years out the exterior finish on the 12 and 17" PowerBooks will look like new.
