Toxic spills, mine blasts, murdered protesters — China's Communists have even a tougher time than the Bush Administration keeping the lid on bad news. A massive show of force, arrests of protest leaders, and then minor amends have kept the status quo thus far. But thanks to technology like text messaging, the peasants are learning about their rights at least as fast as leaders can subvert them to line their pockets. I wonder how long China's news media will be able to stomach telling international reporters, "It's not very convenient to comment on this."
